Uprising doesn’t add up

In the Feb. 4 Spokesman-Review there is an opinion piece by Amy Goodman titled “U.S. aid props Egypt’s regime” that troubles me.

Paragraph 3 starts out, “More than 2 million people rallied throughout Egypt on Tuesday.”

The contents of paragraph 4: “Defying a military curfew, this incredible uprising has been driven by young Egyptians, who comprise a majority of the 80 million citizens.”

I have a really hard time reading the rest of the article based on this. I will admit that I am not a math whiz, but 2 million is 2.5 percent of 80 million, which makes a stretch of paragraph 4. Correct me if I am wrong, but 2.5 percent of a population doesn’t constitute a majority of it.

If all it takes to change leadership of a country is 2.5 percent of its people raising their voice, how is it our leadership is still there?
