Narrow minds block pot

Your recent editorial on changing marijuana laws was spot on, and we really do need to grow up and seriously consider legalizing it.

I know some medical marijuana patients. Here is what they tell me about the stigma associated with their medicine. First off, many people will never consider marijuana as medicine, period.

They must always hide their marijuana use from their fellow Americans, especially at church. It is a sad fact that to many in the pulpit and pews, Christian mercy does not extend to marijuana users; it is better that you suffer than use such an evil weed.

To them you will never be anything but a pothead. You are a stoner that should just suffer with chronic pain, nausea, etc. because you cannot possibly be helped by the dreaded cannabis.

Just suffer, you hippie. Go to the doctor and get a prescription for something else, perhaps a narcotic. That is acceptable; pot is not.

This is the mindset of many, but public attitude shall surely change as our aging population realizes that marijuana helps alleviate many aches and pains associated with growing old. Until then, just shut up and suffer.
