Math truce no solution
In regard to the editorial of Feb. 10, I take great issue with the statements: a “truce” should be called, a moderator found, and a neutral site used. Exercising freedom of assembly does not imply that the organizers of the forum are “adversaries of the school district.” When the district administrators began being rude and disruptive, what could a moderator have done that the three organizers of the forum didn’t try?
Even the organizers were overtalked by the administrators. What is more neutral than a public library?
When the meetings of the board of directors allow little or no time for citizen input, math committees are packed with majorities of school district personnel, and the public is lied to about mathematics education, these forums by Rogers, Thatcher and Barber are the only places the public can speak up, ask questions and get truthful information.
Since district administrators persist in being disruptive, why do we let them direct our students’ education at all? Perhaps it is time for the community to vote for administrators as well as members of the school board.
