Leaders cry wolf

Gov. Gregoire, Lisa Brown and company plan to reduce spending by cutting the services that are most painful to the people. Then when the session is over and the people cry about it, the governor will offer to buy the services back with her plan to increase taxes by referendum.

This reminds us of a lesson from Winston Churchill, which Gov. Gregoire, Lisa Brown and company would do well to learn: “For a nation to try to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle!”
