Lack of money strains school reforms; Maine had big grants to fund theirs

Idaho Statesman columnist Dan Popkey has an interesting look today at how lack of money is straining the implementation of the “Students Come First” school-reform technology initiative, and how the 39-member task force tasked with planning out the tech initiative heard this week about how another state, Maine, took a different tack - launching a laptop computer initiative for middle schoolers with the help of big multimillion-dollar grants that paid for everything from the computers to home Internet access for students who couldn’t afford it.
