Close down D.C.

I have a great idea to reform our federal government. Let’s close down Washington, D.C. We have many times heard how our helpless representatives can’t escape the influence of special interests. I say we help them.

If D.C. were closed and our representatives and senators had to stay in the communities they represent and had to live with the consequences of their voting wouldn’t their interests move closer to home? It would also be much harder for outside influences to get to them if they were spread out in all the districts and the states. They now live in a completely separate world from the people.

Having the ability to personally contact our representatives locally instead of thousands of miles away would also make them more accountable. The only losses would be the elites would not be so elite and have all the perks and parties available to them that they now have in D.C.

D.C. was built because of the need to be together to communicate. With today’s communication possibilities, we no longer need a centralized government location.

Let’s take back the people’s government from the politics of corruption and influence. Let’s close down D.C.!
