Leave critters some space

Johnna Exner’s May 27 letter, “Enough wilderness already,” reminds me of the saying, “Humans are not the only species on Earth, we just act like we are.”

Haven’t we already plowed, paved or developed enough of our once vast wilderness? Animal species are being pushed to the brink of extinction, and now we covet the last 5 percent of land that is set aside as wilderness.

Beside the fact that wilderness is critical for air quality, clean water and sustainable biodiversity, you can bet that the very same people who call for less wilderness will be calling for someone to come kill the bear, moose, coyote, wolves, deer and other critters that are forced into town, desperate for food and shelter, when there is no more wilderness left.
