Gonzaga rolls past Portland

Back with the game story from Gonzaga’s 96-71 victory over Portland in the WCC women’s tournament semifinals.

I waited to post the link until the other semifinal was over (No. 2 Saint Mary’s outlasted No. 7 San Diego 71-68).

Gonzaga hammered Saint Mary’s twice in the regular season, surpassing 100 points in each victory. GU won earlier meetings 106-77 and 102-66.

It was a long afternoon for Portland coach Jim Sollars.

“Well we got beat and there’s nothing good about getting beat,” he said. “We didn’t come out and play with the maturity we needed to. We looked intimidated. Finally, when we relaxed a little bit, we played better. We didn’t do the things we needed to do. We knew going in we needed to stop their transition and keep them off the offensive boards and we didn’t do either of those things.

“F rankly, I’m sick of talking about Gonzaga if you want to know the truth. If I could kick the crap out of that fan who sat right behind me I’d feel better.”
