Honor the workers

The arrest of Kevin William Harpham for the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade bomb serves as a reminder of the importance of the service of public employees to the people of Spokane and our region. Federal agents have arrested a threat to humanity and preserved the peace after this shocking event.

State, county and city officials could not have cooperated and assisted in this arrest without the service of public employees in all levels of government. It was workers that discovered the bomb and called in their suspicion to a county 911 operator.

Before considering balancing government budgets by taking away the rights and cutting pay and benefits from these valuable public servants, remember, they save our lives and protect our communities. They should be rewarded, not vilified.
