Schooling tied to freedom

How did it become so fashionable to hate teachers? What is broken about public education?

Does it need improvement? Yes. What doesn’t?

We live in the most powerful country in the world of all time. Common to the vast majority of us is public education. Could there be a relationship?

Wake up, America, and get behind your teachers. Now that the legislative and judicial systems have been bought by corporate America, how long do you think the middle class will survive, and where will freedom go if public education disappears?

The Spokesman-Review invites original letters on local topics of public interest. Your letter must adhere to the following rules:

  • No more than 250 words
  • We reserve the right to reject letters that are not factually correct, racist or are written with malice.
  • We cannot accept more than one letter a month from the same writer.
  • With each letter, include your daytime phone number and street address.
  • The Spokesman-Review retains the nonexclusive right to archive and re-publish any material submitted for publication.
