Spare Tubbs Hill

Recently the McEuen team included Tubbs Hill in the McEuen Park project.

However, Tubbs is a separate entity. It is not part of McEuen. It is not part of the Lake City Development Corporation. It should not be developed.

Citizen volunteers have worked since the 1950s to protect Tubbs from development. This hill is for public enjoyment of a natural setting; the city has never allowed benches, signs, trash cans, restrooms or paved pathways.

Yet, for some unknown reason, Parks and the team decided to develop this hill with:

1. A sledding hill with resulting clear-cutting of trees and major run-off. The scar would always be there.

2. A new Third Street entrance. The team wants to replace our natural entrance with an artificial waterfall, gardens and a ramp and surround it with Disney-type structures.

3. A new north side trail. This is advertised as an easy, level trail but the area is steep and filled with rock walls which would have to be blasted.

4. A new trailhead surrounded by “water features” and other man-made structures.

Citizens have saved Tubbs from development for 50 years. Let’s continue to keep Tubbs Hill natural. Send City Council e-mails to susanw@cdaid.org.
