Looking ahead to WSU’s NIT opener

Washington State is holding its final full practice this afternoon prior to tomorrow’s NIT opening-round game against Long Beach State. The Cougars had some thoughts on appearing in the NIT for the second time in three years and they shared those yesterday. Read on.

• We talked with the three Cougars who played in that loss to St. Mary’s, Klay Thompson, DeAngelo Casto and Marcus Capers, yesterday and put together this story for tomorrow. After the conversations, I do believe the Cougars will play with intensity against the 49ers. Though, as you know, I’ve been wrong before. But this time they seem to have a chip on their shoulder. … One small piece of news. Former WSU assistant coach Matt Woodley, who has been coaching high school basketball in Des Moines the past couple years, was named head coach at Division II Truman State University today.
