Teacher took low road
In response to “Teacher calls it quits over reforms” (Huckleberries, March 13):
Meghan Ridley, a “former” Idaho special-ed teacher, claims by quitting her teaching position she was “taking a bold stand based on principle.” She says she “had an epiphany” after “troll” attention stemming from a “hot photo” of her. So she “embraced her ‘sexy teacher’ alter ego and launched a Facebook page under the pseudonym ‘ImaHotTeacher.’ ”
If Ms. Ridley was truly “principled” in her so-called “bold stand,” then why did she lower herself to the level of the “trolls” with the launching of her Facebook page? I, like many other parents, have spent the entirety of my children’s lives teaching them to stand on their “principles.” One way they can accomplish this is by not lowering themselves to the level of a baseless opposition.
Ms. Ridley’s situation is, in truth, an example of “compromising principles” and I would hope that ALL parents would not want this example taught to their children. Her career move is, on one hand, a victory for Idaho schoolchildren and, on another hand, a “principleless” decision by the Gonzaga University doctoral program.
