Grounding police no answer

This letter is in response to Steve Berde’s tirade about police pursuits (Letters, March 19).

Mr. Berde apparently thinks police officers shouldn’t drive fast to chase lawbreakers because he’s afraid people could get hurt. While this is a possibility, the plain truth is people can’t be allowed to drive recklessly and in the comfort of believing the police won’t come after them.

Many times, these people are driving much more dangerously than the police. Also, let’s be real, shall we? I’m sure the first time the cops don’t chase somebody and the goons end up hurting or killing innocent drivers or pedestrians, Mr. Berde would be screaming for the cops’ heads on a plate.
