The air was thick with … “Machete”
Thanks to my pal Dan Fratini, last night I had a guilty-pleasure evening full of Cuban food (a chorizo polenta dish), some decent wine and a double feature that only the depraved would love: back-to-back showings of “Machete” and the improbably titled “Hobo With a Shotgun.”
OK, not exactly the kind of fare expected of serious criticism. There is only so much you can say about a Rbert Rodriguez-created grindhouse impersonation. But it was just the right kind of fare for serious movie fans. If nothing quite beats Danny Trejo wielding a big knife, then Rutger Hauer carrying a deadly 12-gauge comes close.
Somewhere, I have to think, even Orson Welles is smiling.
