The Slice: Bloomsday would have been a picnic

Joyce Flanigan saw Monday’s question, “Where are you sore today?”

Her answer included shoulders, forearms, hips, knees, ankles and feet.

No, she didn’t do Bloomsday. All that was from yard work Sunday.

“Wipe Out” lives on: East Valley’s Robbie Berg, 12, can play both the drum part and the guitar line of the ’60s surf-rock instrumental.

His mother, Debbie, sent video proof. “So there is at least one kid who still knows it,” she wrote.

Twice blessed: Margaret Cosgrove will celebrate both Mother’s Day and her birthday on Sunday.

So will Hazel Krull. And Chris Pollock. And Sara Schmier.

In addition to Sunday being Laurie Mueller’s birthday, it is also the first Mother’s Day she will celebrate as a grandmother.

Then there was this from Joyce Scott: “Though I do not celebrate my birthday on May 8th, my mom, Evelyn Grover, and my daughter, Leslie Kelley (who is a mom), were both born on May 8th. My mother is now deceased but if she were here, it would be a great celebration.”

Sheryl Sedra wonders why The Slice didn’t ask about this last year, when both her birthday and Mother’s Day fell on May 9.

In the year 2525: Community Colleges of Spokane lecture-series fliers addressed to my house’s previous resident will still be arriving in the mail.

If, as they say, man is still alive.

If woman can survive.

And if the roof lasts and society sticks with 1950-style information delivery systems.

Super Ball memories: “My brother and I, while teenagers, took one into the racquetball court at the Y,” wrote Bill Slater. “After only two hits, we decided that trying to dodge a missile traveling at 5,000 mph wasn’t too smart.”

One thing you won’t see at Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge: “Starbucks,” said one reader.

“A herd of turnbulls, of course,” wrote Ashley Steinhart. “The kids were so disappointed.”

Today’s Slice question: Is Mexican food on your list of Top 3 favorite cuisines?
