Party loyalty backfires

If there are problems in the Spokane County assessor’s office, it’s the voters’ fault.

Voters elected Vicki Horton as assessor, simply because she’s a Republican, and Spokane County votes Republican. Now she’s running an office that should be a highly technical operation, but she has no technical background. She has only a high school education.

Andrew Jackson, a Democrat, had a college degree with a master’s in computer science and majors. He’s a software engineer, but instead of voting for qualifications, voters voted party and taxpayers pay for mistakes.

Highly qualified people don’t run for office, because they know voters, too many times, are sheep who simply vote party. That’s why things are so screwed up.
