Next up? Smell-o-vision
I have seen the tuture of cinema, and it is cold. And windy.
The film I’m referring to is an adapted, abbreviated, 3-D version of “Blue Planet” that’s playing at the 4-D theater the New York City’s Central Park Zoo. Subtitled “Ice Worlds,” the short film — barely a dozen minutes long — is a section of “Blue Planet” that many of us have already seen.
The differece, though, is that each chair is rigged up so that the viewer expereinces movement to match what’s happening on the screen, wind blowing in your face, a strand of plastic whipping your legs and some actual snow-like liquid to simulate a wind-swept polar landscape.
Imagine what “Avatar” would have been like had you been able to feel the hot wind and, even, smell the jungle of Pandora?
