Vandals Damage Vik Baseball Field
Vandals caused approximately $1200 in damage to the Coeur d’Alene High baseball field sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. According to Vik baseball coach Nick Rook, vandals damaged a bat rack in
one of the dugouts, tossed trash across the field, removed and tore the tarp covering the pitcher’s mound, removed the pitching rubber and damaged it, and damaged the pitching mound. Rook told Coeur d’Alene police that the perpetrators understood baseball because they knew to remove the baseball mound to get to the clay subsurface. Rook told police that the culprits could be players or fans from other high schools in the area. He noted that Post Falls High players were very upset when the Viks beat them Friday afternoon. A Vik player said he saw two 4Runners, one red & one white, and a Jeep near the field when he picked up his vehicle at the school early Saturday morning. He didn’t recognize any of the six people standing near the vehicles.
