Respect wasn’t earned
Osama bin Laden’s burial at sea seems to have rankled some as not being proper to the Islamic faith’s views for the disposal of earthly remains.
I listened and read reports of the procedure for his “funeral” and feel that under the circumstances, it was done with “all due respect” as regards to the Muslim tradition as possible. The very fact that so much consideration and seeming desire on the U.S.’s part to do what was “right and proper” is in itself telling.
We clearly are far more concerned with “doing justice” by this man certainly than he was in regard to the respect and care due his fellow creatures. He spent his life killing and tormenting others and gave no thought to the welfare of or “proper burial procedures for” when he outlined his plans for destruction and the slaughter of thousands of our citizens.
While I was not among those cheering in the streets when the news came of his death, I was glad to know he had been killed. Not a joyous gladness, but a dull sense of relief and satisfaction that some measure of justice has been brought upon him.
