Enabling has to end
I grew up during the Great Depression. During that period, many federal programs were started to help people get jobs. Then World War II came along and ended the Depression. Many of the programs stopped but others remained, leading to welfare.
I lived in a small town in Montana when our first child was born. We saved money during the pregnancy so we could pay for the child’s birth. When the blessed day arrived I went to the desk to pay our bill. In front of me was a man I knew and the clerk asked him how he was going to pay his bill. Very proudly he said, “The county always pays my bills, you know that.” I have never forgotten that to this day, and members of his family are still living on welfare.
Our government has been their and many others’ enablers for too long. For their own good it has to stop.
Our third president, Thomas Jefferson, said, “The Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.”
