Fraternity values endure

Sigma Nu has a 100-year history at Washington State University, 97 without disciplinary problems. Fifty college men rebuilt our legacy based on founding principles of love, truth and honor through incredible efforts.

Your article (“Fresh start for Sigma Nu,” May 9) focused on hazing instead of what makes Greeks successful after school. It’s not just Sigma Nu, the Greek community in general offers so much to the college experience.

Why do kids choose Greek? Is it the consistently higher GPA than the rest of the student body? What of the mentorships they get via alumni boards who work diligently to craft kids into young adults? Or maybe they read the stats: Less than 20 percent of the students at WSU are Greek, but over 75 percent of University giving comes from Greek alumni?

I suppose we Greek volunteers will continue to fight the stereotype your story portrayed vs. the reality we see every day. We have the honor of working with kids who will grow up to give back with the class and dignity they show while at WSU. I have five words for parents looking for an enriching college experience for their kids: Go Cougs and go Greek!
