More snakes to deal with

I am responding to some of the political cartoons that were shown in the May 9 Opinion page. There were four panels, each making a statement about the recent death of Osama bin Laden, however it was the first and the last ones that caught my eye.

In the first, it pictures a large majestic bald eagle holding a rat labeled bin Laden. The last had the same principle but gave off an entirely different message. In this one, we see an Uncle Sam-looking figure, minus the beard, holding a bloody knife and a decapitated snake labeled bin Laden like the first. But, in this one, hidden behind some rocks that the American icon cannot see, are some baby snakes slithering away to safety.

There has been a lot of celebration because of the successful mission by SEAL Team 6, but the reality is that the later comic is the truth. There are more serious threats growing out there as we speak. Let us celebrate the victory that hopefully gave closure to families that suffered from 9/11, but also prepare so that we may celebrate more victories in the future.
