Mary: Don’t Appoint New Trustee Now

Mary Souza of OpenCDA.com brings up a question that I planned to pose this morning. So I’ll let her introduce it. You read on Huckleberries Online Thursday afternoon that Chairwoman Edie Brooks (pictured) of the Coeur d’Alene School Board announced her resignation at a special meeting yesterday . That, of course, creates a vacancy that’ll have to be filled soon. Mary poses this “blunt question” in the comments section of her blog: “Was the timing on Edie’s decision to retire caused by the election results? Sure, she’s now married and has to move, but to announce her decision so suddenly? Right after her favorite didn’t get re-elected? Is it because she wants to appoint a replacement before the new members arrive on the board?” Mary believes that’s the reason, and she finds it “repugnant.” She then goes on to ask that the appointment wait until the two new conservatives (Tom Hamilton and Terri Seymour) join the board in six weeks. Also: Coeur d’Alene Press story here.

Question: Should the Coeur d’Alene School Board wait for Hamilton and Seymour to become trustees before voting to fill the vacancy caused by Edie Brooks’ resignation?
