Opinion Editor Doug Floyd Is Retiring

As I told Jeanie earlier this afternoon, on June 30, the end of next month, we will both have a reason to make special note of the day, for that will be Editorial Page Editor Doug Floyd’s last day at the Spokesman-Review before his retirement. According to nearly everyone I have spoke with, Doug has been working for the SR for over 40 years which, by itself, is quite an accomplishment, given all the changes to the newspaper he has seen take place during that time/ David Laird , Community Comment. DFO: I’ll be 62 in November and midway through my 42nd year in the newspaper business. I started in the last year of the hot-metal press at the Chico (Calif.) Enterprise-Record and now blog at the speed of light and read my books on Kindle. I relish what I do on this blog. But I know that retirement isn’t too far away. Mebbe 3-5 years. So here’s my question:

Question: When do you know that it’s time to retire?
