Term limits as debt strategy
Now that we have started round one in the national debt fight, and the opponents have taken up their respective positions in their left and right corners, we realize that politics definitely trumps all sense of fiscal sanity. It has already morphed into a matter of 2012 election year posturing instead of any serious debt crises discussion. It’s time for the American people to regain control over the politicians, and over federal government spending.
I would like to see a U.S. citizen-initiated amendment to the U.S. Constitution that states that no U.S. representative, U.S. senator or the president of the United States shall be eligible for re-election in any year that the federal government does not achieve a balanced budget, and/or if that budget exceeds 20 percent of the prior year’s GDP.
When confronted with “fiscally induced term limits,” you will be amazed at how well the two parties will pull together to solve these critical problems and to preserve their jobs. If there’s one thing that a politician loves more than spending our money, it’s being a politician.
