Snow, runoff impact some Panhandle forest roads, campgrounds

PUBLIC LANDS — Flooding and a lingering winter snow pack will keep several popular campgrounds and recreation sites in the Idaho Panhandle National Forests closed for the Memorial Day weekend, forest officials announced today.

Read on for tthe list of recreation sites forest officials said would be closed at least through this holiday weekend:

Coeur d’Alene River Ranger District:

• Bumblebee Meadows dispersed campsites
• Honeysuckle Campground
• Dobson Pass Road, closed

• Coeur d’Alene River Road 208 is open to Magee with some snowy patches

St. Joe Ranger District:

• Shadowy St. Joe Campground
• Telichpah Campground (a washout on the access road is being repaired, so a last minute opening may occur)
• All campgrounds and recreation sites past Fly Flat Campground on Red Ives Road

Priest River Ranger District:

• Outlet Campground at Priest Lake (closed for renovations)

Sandpoint Ranger District:

• Whiskey Rock and all dispersed campsites around Lake Pend Oreille are accessible by boat only
• All other developed recreation sites are opening as schedule

Bonners Ferry Ranger District:

• All developed recreation sites are opening as scheduled

All other recreation sites will open on their regularly scheduled dates although temporary closures are possible in the high country or emergency closures due to flooding.
