Put your money on Fairchild

This is in support of Tom Pauley’s letter (May 21) regarding Fairchild Air Force Base and the proposed casino in Airway Heights.

Years ago when Fairchild had its first BRAC review I was chairman of the Armed Forces Committee at the (Spokane) Chamber (of Commerce). I had the opportunity to be a little closer to the process than most area people. It was obvious the three conditions that BRAC used to decide if a base should be closed were importance of mission, encroachment, and condition of facilities of structures on the base. Even though the review of BRAC at that time was a mistake, Fairchild “passed.”

I am sure we all know the importance of Fairchild in so many ways. To risk endangering their position as it relates to base closure/encroachment makes no sense at all.

We need Fairchild a lot more than we need another casino.
