No need for fire station

The proposed Newman Lake Fire District bond issue deserves a no vote. I’m voting against building a new fire station because of our current economic climate, and we simply don’t need higher taxes. Should the measure fail, it won’t be a reflection that this community doesn’t support our volunteer firefighters. Let’s be objective: This fire department goes on only a couple calls per month, and a $2.2 million garage just doesn’t pencil out.

The supporters of this fire bond neglect to mention that it will not save lives or improve service to our community in any measurable way. In these lean economic times, Newman Lake residents can wait a few more years for a new fire station.
