Too many initiatives
Thanks for drawing attention to the impact of the $2 billion in budget cuts that will be coming soon. As a school board member, naturally I don’t want to see any more cuts to our schools. Yet, none of those other alternatives is too appealing either.
Much as I hate to admit it, I think Washington’s crazy, overly prolific output of initiatives on each ballot, which seemed so populist and democratic when I first moved out here 35 years ago, will soon be our undoing. How can citizens possibly understand all the things they’re expected to decide each election?
And then you get a skillful guy like Tim Eyman, who realizes that the game is how you word them, not necessarily what the pros and cons might be in a long debate, and suddenly we’re in a brand new world.
In any event, thanks for the editorial.
