Wells’ dream, then do

I am responding to the Ron Wells’ letter of Nov. 6. He was able to express so much of my opinions and feelings. The preservation of the middle class is so vital as citizens of the world look at what kind of government to choose from. I was working in Carnegie Square when Ron and his wife, Julie, tackled just four corners of one intersection downtown. They offered Hospice of Spokane the upper floor of the old Buick dealership with visions lighting their eyes of what each of those buildings could be. The old Carnegie library was looking pretty shabby and now it raises my Spokane pride every time I go by. As you listed everything he is involved in, I was amazed.

The Republican flat tax plans will protect their own interests but slam the poor and the middle class. The recent budget cuts that have been discussed will do the same. Can’t everyone see what’s happening to America? Time magazine printed the statistic that the famous 1 percent of us that make more money than all of the rest of us have had an income growth of 275 percent from 1979 to 2009. Sickening.

Thanks for your words, Ron.
