Bus routes unfair

When my grandchildren registered for school this year, their parents were told that they would have to walk to the new bus stop almost two miles away. State states that you cannot make children walk more than 1.5 miles. How can the Coeur d’Alene School District break the law? And talk about child endangerment – no sidewalks or streetlights.

The school advised me that they can pay 45 cents a mile. What if both parents work and grandparents live 50 miles away? That would be 100 miles round-trip twice a day, which would amount to $90 a day. I would think it would be cheaper to bus children on rural routes.

And isn’t this discrimination? We can bus students to sporting events, spending $240,000 a year, but not pick up students for academics. Has the world gone mad?
