Gesture to tribe thoughtful

I appreciated the article “A gift from the past” (Sept. 22), especially the words of my cousin, Coeur d’Alene Tribal Cultural Awareness Director Cliff SiJohn. The return of the ancient mortar and pestle to the Coeur d’Alene Tribe by Marilyn Closson was a very sensitive and thoughtful gesture; a rock-solid example of her belief system mixing with a Coeur d’Alene tribal belief system:

A belief system of honesty, integrity, and goodwill toward others as we celebrate the change of seasons; ancient respect for elders and prayers for generations to come in the future; setting aside a day or two and being thankful for what we do have; a strong network of faith, family, and friends, preparing for the future.
