Berns Talks To Press, But Wary
Tony Berns, of Lake City Development Corp., provided HucksOnline with an example of written communications between the Coeur d’Alene Press and himself: ( You can read more about his explanation in a Coeur d’Alene Press article here. ):
- Issue: LCDC prefers email to convey the accurate message as a way to improve your message getting to the public, especially on topics or projects with a lot of moving parts?
- Berns: Yes, written communication between the LCDC and Press will enhance the accuracy of the information shared with the public, especially where more complicated/involved issues are being discussed.
- Issue: LCDCis still open to talking and other avenues of communication, too?
- Berns: Yes, written responses on issues/questions are just an additional step in assuring that information is accurately communicated .
- Issue: Your preference for email correspondence has nothing to do with a recent records request dispute with Mary Souza, and you weren’t clear that the decision was becoming a part of the story.
- Berns: I have been thinking for quite a while how better to enhance communications with the Press. This added step of written responses had nothing to do with Mrs. Souza’s request. And yes, I was not clear the written response issue was going to become part of the story you wrote.
Question: Read between the lines. What’s Tony Berns problem with Press communications?
