Debt devouring pride
Phillip Wylie wrote in “A Generation of Vipers” (1942): “There must be an end to a government of boobs, by boobs, for boobs.”
Then, as now, wise legislators were lacking, though Congress overflowed with others. Still, through Dwight Eisenhower’s presidency, Congress legislated to relieve debt for children still unborn.
Congressional delegates now cease to control national debt due to policies that actually encourage debt escalation. Each American, including my five great-grandchildren, owes $45,000.
Shameful deterioration of American pride results as too many in Congress vote Democratic and Republican party lines. When will they value being true Americans, realizing their job is not to support their party, but to support the American people, as did our forefathers?
I’m a retired U. S. Navy American, neither Democrat nor Republican, who believes God guided our forefathers to separate church and state. With no approved state religion, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Christians, those of other religions, those not religiously affiliated and people black, white or brown are all equal.
It’s time that fact is fully recognized in Congress – and by each American. And though our nation started in debt, it’s time for legislatures to relieve debt for our grandchildren.
