Brent: King’s ‘Dome’ Ain’t ‘The Stand’

Brent Andrews: I read my first Stephen King book in years, and just turned it back in to the library. It was ‘Under the Dome’ (2009), about an impenetrable dome that settles over a little New England town trapping 2,500 people and bringing out all the little Devils that had been lurking and waiting. Few survive. We have the largest meth lab in the U.S., alien ‘leatherheads,’ small-town politics, the Army looking the other way - while firing missles at the problem - and of course a few heroic kids taking on the system. We have bad air and a Prius that saves the day. It sounded dumb to me, but I read it anyway hoping for that old feeling like I had reading ‘The Stand,’ like I would flee to a cave if it meant more time to read this book. And it was like that, in the middle. It wasn’t ‘The Stand’ but who could do that twice?

DFO: I just finished reading Michael Lewis’s “Moneyball,” about the method Oakland A’s GM Billy Beane used to build a ballclub with little money. And would recommend it to any sports fan. Best. Sports. Book. Ever. Now reading Tom Rachman’s “The Imperectionists.”

Question: Which book did you last read? Would you recommend it to Hucks Nation. And: Which book are you going to read next. (Hint: Don’t want a laundry list of books, just two)
