Rate increases perplexing
Council members Amber Waldref, Joe Shogan, Jon Snyder and Richard Rush voted to increase water and wastewater rates with double-digit increases for the next five years. Mary Verner chose not to veto.
This decision is particularly perplexing considering our stagnant economy, high unemployment and inflation. Actually, it is possible there won’t be an increase in revenue, just an unattractive city, since many people have found it necessary to stop watering outside.
Each home is like a small park, but now there are many neighborhoods that appear distressed because of all the brown yards and dying plants. This reduces the value of the home and all adjacent properties.
I know the city has state and federal unfunded mandates regarding water quality, but I think that this is an excessive increase.
Help this city become green again.
