Baxter’s actions speak volumes
I was pleased to read Sen. Jeff Baxter has decided to join other legislators in taking a voluntary 3 percent pay cut. I was doubly pleased to learn Sen. Baxter voluntarily opted out of the state’s health care plan as well.
Politicians like to pontificate about the need for everyone to tighten their financial belts: state workers must take a pay cut, the state must spend less, taxpayers must pay more. But it isn’t too often politicians acknowledge the obvious hypocrisy of asking everyone to make do with less while they blithely continue to deposit their taxpayer-funded paychecks.
Actions speak louder than words, and given our state’s budget woes, Sen. Baxter’s actions speak volumes.
