Need more like Cathy in office

Some letters have been written lately berating Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers’ principled stand on the issues of deficit, debt and the budget.

S&P lowered the U.S. credit rating due to the deficit spending of Congress and the building, unsustainable debt. Cathy is working to bring this deficit and debt problem under control. The Democrats are not willing to compromise, sticking to their position to tax, spend and regulate the country to death.

Raising the debt limit only prolongs and amplifies the debt problem. Continuing to spend up to twice your annual income and incurring a debt 20 times your annual income leads to bankruptcy or a financial collapse.

Regarding taxing and the deficit, Cathy understands you cannot close the deficit with tax increases – a tax increase of 75 percent on every taxpayer or a nearly 200 percent tax on the so-called rich would be needed. The so-called rich already pay the bulk of taxes and provide capital for businesses and jobs.

If we are going to talk about sacrifice, the fact that 51 percent of American households pay no income tax needs to be brought into the discussion. If our government wasn’t so business hostile, a lot of these people would have jobs or better jobs and be paying income taxes.

If we had more people of Cathy’s caliber in Congress, Congress might be able to get our financial and economic house in order.
