Her vote blocks grants

In response to the (Aug. 31) letter “5th District lucky”:

The author asserts that Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers is “principled and compassionate” and an advocate for Eastern Washington. In the same paper’s Northwest section, there was an article titled, “City fears steeper reduction in funds,” which raises concerns over the steepest reduction of federal block grants in a decade. These grants provide primary funding for repairs to local projects such as roads, roofs, sidewalks, youth programs etc.

The article quotes Ms. McMorris Rodgers as strongly supporting the block grant program; however, earlier this year, she voted – as part of the GOP-sponsored federal budget plan – to cut the federal block program by 62 percent.

Her vote also supported the dismantling of the Medicare program and balancing the budget by cutting funding for other federal programs while protecting tax breaks for the corporations and the wealthy.

Take the time to look up Rep. McMorris Rodgers’ voting record (and all congressional voting records, for that matter). If you agree with the GOP’s current extreme agenda, Ms. McMorris Rodgers is your advocate; if you disagree with abdicating control of the country to corporations and the wealthy, she is not representing you.
