Vote to protect river

The recent protest against the docks proposed for the Spokane River as part of the Coyote Development is one more example of threats the river faces. Among other concerns, the docks would interfere with native redband trout breeding in the river.

Efforts to clean up the river and protect fish habitat routinely get mired in a regulatory scheme, which permits corporate polluters and developers to delay and dilute protection efforts – such as pollution discharge limits – for years if not decades. All the while, the health of the river, and our community along with it, are suffering.

Fish runs on the river are at record lows. Restoring our fisheries begins with restoring the river in which they swim. Proposition 1, the Community Bill of Rights, will empower the people of Spokane to protect the river, authority which we’ve never had before. Vote yes on Proposition 1.
