A light Friday from Pullman

COUGARS

Good morning and welcome to a Friday without Washington State football. The only one until the season ends later this fall – and yes, starting today it is officially fall. But without a lot from Pullman, this autumn starts with a surprisingly light slate. Read on.

• Washington State: The news we shared last night that freshman Logan Mayes may play – and it’s still a “may” based on how he practices over the next week – against Colorado brought a strong response (including this from CougCenter), more than we are used to seeing concerning a true freshman. Is it the last name? Or is it the bye week? A combination of both, or something else? … Cougfan also had the same news in a practice report . … Though we don’t have any stories for you today, we will have a basketball piece for Saturday’s S-R and an in-depth interview with Bill Moos for Sunday.

• Around the Pac-12: As we get closer to Saturday’s games, there’s more from around the conference, including expansion thoughts from Bud Withers and, as always , Jon Wilner. Plus, ESPN.com’s Ted Miller examines a key Pac-12 North game. … Wilner also has his picks . … Washington: Though Keith Price is leading the offense, his number isn’t up just yet. … Takeaways are crucial for the Huskies’ defense. … Oregon State: There is still upheaval in Corvallis as UCLA visits. … Oregon: Another in a long line of long-term Oregon employees is leaving. … Cliff Harris is slowing down (sorry, couldn’t resist). … California: Nothing here. … Stanford: Or here either. … Colorado: An Ohio kid is looking forward to playing in Columbus. … Utah: Nothing here. … USC: Marc Tyler has good taste . … UCLA: The Bruins run defense bends and breaks . … Arizona State: Vontaze Burfict is the Trojans’ No. 1 target , even before the game. … Arizona: Another game, another offensive star to try and contain.

• That’s all for today. With no football practice today we don’t expect to be back, though, if circumstances warrant, we will. Any time we post, we send out a tweet, so make sure you’re following us at vinceg55. Until later …
