Kempthorne Still Has Political Itch

Dirk Kempthorne is profiled in the latest edition of the subscription-only “CEO Update,” a magazine covering national associations like the one run by the former Idaho governor. Since 2010, Kempthorne has been CEO of the American Council of Life Insurers, where he says the job is a good place to “recharge my batteries” and enjoy life away from public office. “I can actually have a friend buy my sandwich,” Kempthorne told reporter Mark Tarallo. But Tarallo writes that the CEO life hasn’t extinguished the political ambition that has put Kempthorne on lists as a potential Republican candidate for president or vice president. Tarallo asked Kempthorne whether he might again seek elected office, as is his former U.S. Senate colleague, Democrat Bob Kerrey of Nebraska, who left the presidency of The New School in New York to run for the Senate this year/ Dan Popkey , Idaho Statesman.
