Another day, another WSU practice
COUGARS
FROM PULLMAN — After a day off, WSU will be back on the field this afternoon for its seventh practice of the spring. Which means it will be really nice outside. Or snowing. We’ll see.
…
There isn’t much WSU news today, but there’s about to be. Ken Bone is holding his end-of-season press conference this morning, and we’ll be there, then the Mike Leach Spring Extravaganza (new unofficial working title) continues at 3:10, and we’ll be there, too. You’ll rue the day if you miss any of our coverage. … We did conduct a live chat yesterday, our first of the spring, and you can read the recap of that here . As noted there, we’re going to chat at the same time each week — Wednesday at noon — until spring practices are over. … Interesting story here from the Daily Toreador about some Mike Leach supporters taking on Texas Tech in its quest to become a tier-one university. … CougCenter ran down some of the records set by the basketball team this season.
Elsewhere around the Pac-12 … Arizona is happy about the return of a long-snapper. The Wildcats’ basketball team is already being picked as one of the nation’s top 20 or so teams for the 2012-13 season. … An Arizona State defensive back says he’s fulfilling his calling. ASU unveiled some renderings for renovations to its football stadium, with a “futuristic-looking canopy” included. … As expected, Washington picked up a commitment from Tacoma Community College guard Mark McLaughlin on Wednesday . McLaughlin committed to Washington State once upon a time — during the Reagan Administration, or so — before signing with Nevada, then asking for a release after coach Mark Fox left, then attending a prep school, then signing with Baylor, then transferring to Seattle University, redshirting, playing 17 games the next season before leaving and playing the 2011-12 season at TCC. Now he’s a Husky. Oh, what tangled webs are woven. … Practices are quieter this spring for the UW football team. The Huskies’ big tight end is feeling fresh after playing basketball. … Chip Kelly liked Oregon’s second day of practice. … Oregon State is replacing some old turf. … Love this headline . … An update on California’s stadium renovation, which is coming along according to schedule. … USC landed the nation’s top-ranked quarterback, Max Browne, who hails from Skyline High in Sammamish. … A Colorado basketball player is trying to get a handle on his diabetes. … Sounds as if the Rose Bowl may survive a switch to a playoff in college football.
As for our wildcard link … The craziest thing about this story , to me, is not that Lebanese basketball player Mohammad El Akkari scored 113 points in a game. It’s not that he attempted 59 3-pointers, nor that he made 32 of them, nor that he averaged just 7.6 points per game prior to his big night. It’s that this is what his coach had to say afterward: “He puts in a lot of hard work in practice. I am not surprised.” Not surprised? Are you kidding me? He scored 113 points! And shot 59 threes! And made 32 of them! That is one tough guy to surprise, apparently.
That’s all for now. We’ll have a bunch of basketball and football stuff for you later.
