Rural Idaho Shrinking Populationwise

New data shows Idaho’s rural communities are continuing to shrink but at a more intense rate, with population declines recorded in 18 remote counties last year. The state Department of Labor reported Thursday that more rural counties lost population from July 2010 through July 2011 than at any other time since the 1980s, according to new U.S. Census Bureau data. Idaho’s total population increased by more than 13,800 during the 12-month period that ended last summer, but only 20 of those new residents settled in rural communities, the data showed/ AP .
