I have a hard time not feeling incredibly cynical about mega-churches. I prefer a small parish. Then
again, I also don’t care for shopping malls, big box stores, fast food chains, or huge parking lots. I’m weird like that. I’m also the kind of person who prefers thoughtful contemplation and meditation rather than a Rock-Out Party for Jesus!-type church atmosphere (I don’t want to be entertained at church. I want to think about spiritual matters). To each his own, but I don’t see the appeal of charismatic mega-churches. The handful I’ve visited with friends left me with nothing but a hollow feeling and a case of the creeps.
Question (for church goers): Do you prefer mega-church (1000s), medium-sized one (350-700), or small one (under 200)?
