DM: Give ‘John Carter’ 2nd Chance
Boise area blogger Dennis Mansfield contends that a bad public relations effort doomed the release of “John Carter” in American theaters. Dennis says the film was truly good, “certainly worthy of the investment that
Disney poured into it. The
worldwide receipts
of $263 million (especially in Russia) are proving out the value of the storyline among those who connected the dots on the 19th century Confederate cavalry officer and his travel to Mars. The opening of the film in Japan this week will further prove out the high level of interest in this storyline. I am certain that it is a painfully slow-go on this investment. But don’t give up. True entertainment’s positive buzz comes from valuable content. Disney provided just such entertainment in “John Carter”. The PR was not there, so now the positive buzz is beginning to start. But in America itself, most theater goers knew nothing of the film’s history, of Edgar Rice Burroughs or of the storyline”/
