Scrooges abound today

All this furor over taxes has me shaking my head in sorrow. I worked from age 16 to 79 and never begrudged paying taxes (except for a couple of unnecessary ones). Taxes are the price we pay to live in a country where children and old people are not rummaging in garbage or begging on the streets. A country where everyone can get an education and social services exist to help people in need.

Sure could have used some of that when I was young, but there wasn’t much available then. When did we get so greedy that we demonize the poor and try to squeeze every penny we have? Ebenezer Scrooge would find lots of like-minded friends today in America.
