Hedberg: Be The Best At Something
Over time, most of us have finally shed our youthful ambitions and come to the mature realization that we will
never be Olympic stars. I know I stopped dreaming of being a world class track champion and started acting my age a few weeks ago.
But watching those young athletes in all those events many of us would love to have done if only we’d been born with extraordinary talent can at least inspire us to get off the couch and try something new - go for a run or a swim or a bike ride. Or jump up and down on a trampoline or swing our legs over the stair banister. And then the next day we’re back on the couch nursing strained muscles from overdoing. But, hey, for a glimmering moment Olympic glory was in our sights. Maybe it’s just human nature to be competitive about something. I have to fight that urge a lot because, basically, I want to be the best at everything, and if I can’t be, then I don’t want to do it/
