Column: Why All The Political Hatred?

It seems that all my friends from the time when I was the age of 15 until now were Republicans. Did we fight about that, did we cuss and call each other names, did we hate each other? No, we played ball together, drank together, chased girls together and even went to war together. We would kid each other by calling each other damn Democrats and damn Republicans and that was as far as it went. We never hated each other like what’s going on in Washington, D.C. I never hated Ronnie Reagan, I never hated Dick Nixon. He just joined the wrong gang of crooks that infested Congress. Did I hate George W. Bush? No, and I halfway felt sorry for him in the last year of his presidency when his government, his cronies and the country started to collapse around him. I never had seen a man so eager to get out of the White House as him. Then something strange happened. Barack Obama gets elected to be president. That’s when the hate started/ Vic Deering , Lewiston Tribune. More here.

DFO : I disagree with Vic that the hate started with Barack Obama’s presidency. There was plenty of political hate to go around during the Bill Clinton and George W. Bush days.

Question: Do you have good friends who are members of the opposite major political party?
